Revolution in Warfare?: Air Power in the Persian Gulf
Published in Hardcover by United States Naval Inst. (November, 1995)
Average review score:

Revolution in Warfare? Air Power in the Persian GulfThe DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM campaigns are widely touted as the defining moments of the development in air power; the results exemplified the lessons laid down by the prime architect of US air power, Gen. Henry H. 'Hap' Arnold. Every lesson ever learned was condensed and incorporated into these two tremendous efforts. "Revolution in Warfare?" details the incredible efforts planners made to send hundreds of aircraft into a combat zone to destroy the massive and highly complex Iraqi military - all from the air. Phased targeting strategies, sortie rates, target lists, kill rates, munitions expenditures, counter-SCUD ops, enemy chokepoints, and support efforts - all the chronological and statistical information needed to comprehend the complexity and sheer magnitude described as the largest aerial campaign ever assembled. A great read - especially for those of us who were there loading the weapons - and never realized the extent to which Gen. 'Chuck' Horner's planners went to conserve and protect the lives of all aviators.

Rio Grande From the Rocky Mountains to the Gulf of MexicoThe Rio Grande River (Great River) is the third longest river in the United States that divides Mexico and the US. Peter Lourie travels the entire river from it's headwaters in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado to the Gulf of Mexico. This is a wonderful account of his travels on this grand river. The history, rich land and people of the Rio Grande are captured in the detailed and colorful photographs. Each region that the Rio Grande travels through is unique and beautiful. I admire Peter Lourie because he is very respectful of the people and the delicate land of the Rio Grande. He did a wonderful job in illustrating the beauty and importance of this remarkable river. I absolutely enjoyed this book because the Rio Grande is very close to home!

The seasons may change but the canyon walls stand guard over this beautiful 10000 wilderness area on the Cumberland Plateau near Chattanooga, Tenn. Sea of Cortez: A Leisurely Journal of Travel and Research
Published in Hardcover by Paul P Appel Pub (June, 1971)
Average review score:

A must have book for true Steinbeck fans.A marvelous insight into John Steinbeck and his mentor/pal, Ed Ricketts ("Doc" of Cannery Row fame.). Their obvious affection and respect for the other threads throughout the text. Contains wonderful lines such as," ...in six weeks in Baja, we collected about 3000 specimens of beer.", and of course there is the Hansen Sea Cow.
Their musings about a world going crazy (Hitler is on the rise in Europe during the time of the voyage) are superb.
The science and biology at the back of the volume is just the icing on a most delectable cake.
